RCP’s Unique Role
RCP is distinct in the role it plays in assisting, protecting and advocating for the respect of human rights of refugee women and children. RCP is the only relief organisation in South Africa created by a group of refugees to support, protect and advocate for social justice and access to basic resources and services by vulnerable refugee women and children. It is independent of government and international institutions and therefore with the leeway to advocate for the respect of its beneficiaries’ human rights, dignity and access to resources and services with an unbiased and impartial voice.
Since its inception,
RCP has delivered its mission with measurable success. Through networking
with other local, regional and international organisations dealing with
refugees, RCP has been able to implement a plethora of programmes including
advocacy and para-
RCP collaborates within and outside the refugee and migrant sector, while still realises the importance of the services delivered by other institutions to alleviate the plight of refugee women and children. RCP’s current challenge is to mainstream refugee women and children’s issues within the national human rights agendas of the concerned countries.
